Top 5 Golf Travel Destinations Across the United States
Over the past several decades, the United States has experienced a major boom in golf destinations which has made it easier than ever to plan the golf trip of a lifetime. With award-winning destinations from coast to coast, the choice can be difficult.
Follow along with us as we break down some of our favorite golf destinations across the United States. Whether it’s a course that’s filled with golf heritage or one that’s exceeding expectations since its recent inception, you’ll find it below!
- Bandon Dunes, Oregon
It wouldn’t be a legitimate golf destination list without placing the legendary Bandon Dunes at the top. Bandon Dunes is home to six links-style golf courses that run along the Pacific Coast of Oregon and have all been listed among the top 100 courses in America by Golf Digest.
A combination of scenic views, top-rated public golf, and enough courses to play for days without seeing the same hole twice makes this one of the best destinations in the world for a buddy’s golf trip.
- Pinehurst, North Carolina
North Carolina is home to mountains, beaches, rolling hills, and incredible golf. At the top of the list is Pinehurst Resort which owns and operates nine eighteen-hole golf courses in the center of the state.
The golf courses include Pinehurst No. 1-9, as well as Tobacco Road, Southern Pines Golf Club, and plenty more in the surrounding area. No matter where you are in the United States or even in the world, Pinehurst North Carolina will be worth the trip for any golf enthusiast.
- Monterey Peninsula, California
The Monterey Peninsula in California is one of the first major golf destinations in the United States and is home to some of the most well-known courses in the country. Courses like Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill, Cypress Point, Spanish Bay, and many more are sprawled out across this beautiful area.
Layed out across the pacific coast of California, you will find one of the most affluent golf destinations in the world. These courses will commonly have higher greens fees than most but for thousands of golfers every year, the cost is worth the scenery and history of this area.
- Wisconsin
One up-and-coming destination that I’m proud to call home is the state of Wisconsin. Over the past two decades, Wisconsin has proven itself as a top golf destination with the birth of courses like Whistling Straits, Blackwolf Run, Erin Hills, Sand Valley, and more.
As you drive from one small farm town to the next, the last thing you’d expect in this area is world-class golf but it can be found all across the state. If you’re planning a trip to this area, try to plan for the end of summer and the beginning of fall where the weather and course conditions create the perfect golf atmosphere.
- Big Cedar Lodge, Missouri
Located in Ridgedale Missouri, Big Cedar Lodge is quickly exploding in popularity because of the variety of options it presents to golfers. Similar to Wisconsin, when someone thinks about top golf destinations across the country, Missouri isn’t likely on the top of anyone’s mind but that will soon change.
With Ozarks National being opened in 2019 and Tiger Wood’s Payne’s Valley in 2020, Missouri has quickly made a name for itself in golf destinations. In the same area, you’ll also have quick access to play Top of the Rock, Buffalo Ridge, and a renowned 13 hole short course called Mountain Top. Big Cedar Lodge is definitely worth considering on your next trip!
Find It, Plan It, Play It
This list barely scratches the surface of golf destinations across the United States so if you’re still not sold on one of these incredible locations, there are plenty more to choose from. Now it’s up to you to get that next trip in the books!
